Planning to Build - Don't Forget the Fireplace

When entertaining there are two rooms that people congregate to the most. The kitchen, if it is before diner, and the room with the Rumford fireplace if it is cocktail time! It only makes sense to put some thought into the fireplace design. With some planning it can be quite the conversational piece.
Architects and designers have been using unique fireplace designs since the 1800's in Europe and the tradition continues here in the States. If you have ever had the chance to see a custom crafted brick fireplace then it needs little explanation as to why it is highly desired. A traditional masonry fireplace has a presence to it that is warm and welcoming yet rigid and timeless.

When in the planning stages of constructing a traditional New England style home where the chimney and fireplace will go and what it will look like are one of the first items to take into consideration. If a manufactured fireplace is an option it is worth noting that is cannot offer the same functionality as a traditional masonry fireplace and chimney. If the sounds of crackling flames and the feel of warm radiant heat is desired it is one of the main benefits to a traditional fireplace. A manufactured unit simply cannot and should not be used to have a rip roaring fire, nor is it designed to heat a room or a house.

Lots of people enjoy the look of masonry, but want the convenience of a gas log. In the design stages it is very simple to install a gas log.

For maximum heat output many people are turning to inserts that fit into the firebox opening. These function much the same as a wood stove, but function with the standard fireplace and its hearth.

Many people see burning wood for heat as a great safety net in today's volatile energy climate. Designers love working with brick samples to pick and choose, balance and contrast the living areas. A talented designer can incorporate masonry into a contemporary flair or a cottage home with historic charm, or anything in between.  The color and textures that bricks are made in is astonishing. Some bricks are molded, some are cut with wire on the exposed areas. With today's technology improvements in the appearances and durability of bricks is evolving into a very sophisticated product.

If flexibility and functionality along with some energy savings is attractive to you, then insist your builder retain the services of a Clinton ma masonry contractor and construct a hand crafted traditional masonry fireplace in your home.
